Introduction

This programme is designed specially for  oung people who wish to raise their English skills to a higher level systematically and at the same time have an opportunity to earn some money by working in a reliable and secure environment. A student’s stay in NZ can be longer than one year if this is what a student wishes.

Participating Conditions:

Age:  18 years old and over

Programmes: 

Programme A,B,C, and D.  Refer to the 2nd page titled Programmes. Please select one of them.
Travel Insurance: Holder of Travel Insurance or Health Insurance.
English level: Prefer student’s English level to be equivalent to TOEFL400+, TOEIC500+, IELTS 4 at the time of the student’s internship starting.  Please note the English level of each programme for the programme selected.
Visa type: Enter New Zealand as a tourist or student visa holder and take our English course for up to 4-8 weeks. Student may require either open dated return air ticket or “within 28days” return discounted air ticket when entering to NZ.

Visa type can be either working holiday visa, student visa or tourist visa depending on nationality. For German student Working Holiday visa is best as there is no restriction concerning duration of work at one place which means German student can work at one hotel for longer than 3 months and they do not need to change their visa/permit to the work permit./visa.  This will save at least $400 for permit application related costs. 

* Work Permit: 

This clause will not need for German student who hold NZ Working Holiday visa.
Before student moves to the hotel for takeing up the paid work experience, WBS assists student to fill in the Work Permit Application form during the “Pre-departure Orientation” session, preparing other necessary documents as well as the medical check and X-ray.  Obtaining NZ Work Permit (cost, $120) is guaranteed as long as student takes the hotel WBS arranged for.  

Other necessary documents are;

1. copy of Job offer and employment agreement issued by the hotel.

2. if the duration of work is longer than 6 months, X-ray certificate (cost $80-$95) and the medical certificate(cost $150 - $180) are required.  These fees covered by student unless the programme fee is packaged total price.
3. 2 passport size photos.
4. Hotel will issue their Employment agreement/ a job offer.
5. In order to obtain Work permit, student must take hotel job WBS arranged.
6. * WBS Contract Agreement:  Participant requires to sign WBS Programme Participant Contract Agreement.  

Programme starting dates:

17 September 07,  2008 dates will be available on request.

Hotel Internship starting dates 07:  

4th June, 9th July 10th Dec, and possibly other dates as long as there are vacancies,

Duration of internship:  

Minimum 4 weeks English, total duration of 3 months. 6 months, 12 months and up to 2 years.

Place of Internship:  

Queenstown, Millennium Hotel chain, possibly other major tourism areas.

Working hours: 

For German student, job will be more custom oriented work such as waiter/waitress or even reception if his/her English is high enough (CAE level).  Working hours canbe also different to house keeping work.
For hotel house keeping work, 30-40 hours per week.  Work starts at 8:00am and should be completed by 3:00pm.
Some over times are available from time to time.  After 6:00pm student has an opportunity to find other evening part time work at local restaurant etc.

Pay:    

NZ$11.50 p/hour gross.

Income tax in NZ: Annual income of NZ$11.50 p/hour, 30 hours p/week applies Income tax rate of 22.3%.  For information; annual income up to $9,500.00, 16.3%.  22.3% for  $9,500.00 - $38,000.00 income, 34.3% for＄38，000.00－＄60，000.00annual income.

Type of jobs: 

For German student, the type of job will be a hotel restaurant work, refer to Working hours above.
Mainly housekeeping.  If student’s English level is higher than TOEFL 500, IELTS 6, there is possibility for student to move to the Food and Beverage department (Waiter/waitress), front reception work or guest services, etc.

Accommodation: 

Within the hotel, there are the staff quarters with communal lounge, kitchen, single room at NZ$130 per week, 3 bed room NZ$90 per week)
Students can also arrange own flat etc when he/she becomes familiar with the town.

Transport cost to the work place:  

Covered by student.  By air plane (NZ$200 - $350 one way); WBS assists with booking.  By bus and a ferry, around $150.  Better to book as early as possible in order to get a discount fare.

English course at WBS: 

Student should complete the minimum 4 – 12 weeks English course at WBS before  moving to the hotel.  WBS books transport to the work place.

Accommodation during English:  

Student stay at one of WBS arranged NZ family homes during their WBS English course.  The duration of English course will depend on student’s English level.

WBS Student Support: 

WBS provides the following extensive programme participating Student Support Services.
 *  arranges the hotel for student if it is neccessary.
 *  Assist student in booking appropriate transport to their work place.
 *  Assist student making own C.V and covering letter.
 *  Assist student applying to Inland Revenue, personal number (IRD income tax code number).
 *  Assist student opening NZ bank account.
 *  Provide Pre-departure Orientation.
*  WBS as student’s emergency contact.
*  WBS stores student’s personal belonging while on trip etc.
*  Assist student for giving counselling when they come across problems, worries or some issues etc and advising way to solve.

Programmes:

Programme A: 12 weeks full time English and usual homestay.  After 11 months WK Experience, one months free time for NZ sight seeing. Total of 16 months stay in NZ.
Programme B: 12 weeks full time English and usual homestay.  After 6 months WK Experience, three months free time for NZ sight seeing. Total of 12 months stay in NZ.
Programme C: 8 weeks full time English and usual homestay.  After 10 months WK Experience, four month free time for NZ sight seeing. Total of 16 months stay in NZ.
Programme D: 8 weeks full time English and usual homestay.  After 6 months WK Experience, four months free time for NZ sight seeing. Total of 12 months stay in NZ.
Programme E: 4 weeks full time English and usual homestay (English level on his/her course starting time is TOEIC 600, or IELTS 5-6).  After 6 or 11 months WK Experience, five  months free time for NZ sight seeing. Total of 12 months stay in NZ.
